I was talking about FOAF in a post about LinkedIn. FOAF or "Friend of a friend" is a one of the staples of social media since it helps you find people who are friend of people you already know. I think it has a tragic flaw though. What happens when your friends are too friendly?

LinkedIn is probably the place to find profiles for business collegues. Their F.O.A.F. (friend of a friend) searching is the most useful implementation of a business profile search. Search on any name and it will tell you inf they are in your contact list.. Of a friend of a collegue.. or a friend of a friend.. etc While LinkedIn was always people focussed. I've already been asked 4 times today what I thought about "Open Social". Open Social is Google's initiative to allow developers to write to one API and pick which social "host" to get the data from.
